The majority of the population dread Monday as the start of the work week and the end of the wonderful lazy weekend. For me though, instead of the commute to work, I get to sit at my desk and work on paintings but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a Monday pick-me-up. I want to start the week with a post about some artist (current or past) that I enjoy looking at their work or/and find inspirational so instead of scolling mindlessly on facebook I can get to work. In come "Motivational Mondays" so I can do just that.

Mead Schaeffer

Mead Schaeffer (July 15, 1898 – November 6, 1980) was an American illustrator active from the early to middle twentieth century. He first worked in book illustration for Dodd Mead and then in editorial working for a multitude of magazines including the Saturday Evening Post. Schaeffer was a friend and contemporary of Norman Rockwell. More information on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead_Schaeffer

I really love Schaeffer's use of light and dark in his paintings it gives a very dramatic look. The shadows  are almost broken down in to very clear shapes, adding a really solid, structural look to his paintings.

Enjoy your Monday!
